The matter will be investigated and any appropriate action taken. If you have an general 'argument' or falling out with another member that you can not resolve yourselves please consult your Kingdom Ruler, or other administrator that you trust, for guidance. They will try to help you resolve the problem but it is not always possible. We recommend that if your maturity allows you should agree to disagree and always remember that everyone has the right to their own opinion, even if it does not match you own. Result 3 of 10: Author Topic: Please Read First (Read 80 times) Ilúvatar Administrator member is offline Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 10 Notes on Role Play « Result #3 on May 25, 2004, 1:52pm » I am sure many of us remember our younger days, and the playground games where you would pretend to be the characters from our favorite television show or story book. What we were doing was Role Playing in it's purist form. In pretending to be He-Man or She-Ra (as it was in my day) we tried to behave as they would, and so that is what we do here. The first thing you need to do is decide what race you are going to be. You then need to go to that Kingdoms sign up hall and follow the instructions on how to join that kingdom. Think carefully about your choice as it will be frowned upon if you constanly kingdom hop. YOU MAY ONLY JOIN ONE KINGDOM AT A TIME. You can easily pick out the obvious differences between a Hobbit and an Elf or an Ent and a Dwarf so if your new to the idea of role play just stick to the basic differences to start with. Once you become more confident you can think about developing your 'character', although probably the best character to have is your own with those essential characteristics that define your race. Here on A Tolkien Forum we use normal type with quotes for speech and italics for setting the scene and denoting actions. The best way to understand the idea is to read through the threads in your chosen kingdom. Often refered to as Eru. The creator of A Tolkien Forum, Ilúvatars power covers the entire forum. In any forum disagreement Iluvatars decision is final. Only Ilúvatar may ban a member. The Valar Ilúvatars most trusted governing assistants, the Valar will keep a close eye on all events occuring on the boards. Their powers within the forums are little less than that of Ilúvatar. Please do not ask to be a Valar. Those who have the skills and commitment for such a role will be offered the post in due course. Rulers Essentially the Rulers are the administrators for the kingdoms. Their powers are far more limited across the forum but within their own kingdom their word is law. This term may initally refer also to the Editors of the Middle Earth Times and Encyclopedia as well as those responsible for the boards in the Lore Section. Please do not ask to be a Ruler. Those who have the skills and commitment for such a role will be offered the post in due course. The role of the Editors and Lore Section administrators are unique posts that will be awarded to those who display the unique talants required for these roles. Basic and Advance Lore are for discussions on Tolkiens books. Please first ask you questions in Basic Lore, should the Lore Section Moderators consider your topic to require a more in-depth discussion they will move it to Avanced Lore. Please do not start threads in Advanced Lore. The Encyclopedia The Encyclopedia is a future project for the forum. More information will be available nearer the time when we start to compile the encyclopedia. The Middle Earth Times The ME Times will eventually become a monthly newspaper for the forum, with journalists from the kingdom writing threads of news stories from their kingdom. At present only the FanFic and Links sections are open. Members are invited to show off their own stories or poetry on the FanFic board. Links may be posted on the links board. The Kingdoms These Kingdoms are those who feature within the Lord of the Rings - the kingdoms of the third age. Once there are sufficient member numbers the kingdoms of the Silmarillion may be introduced. You may join only one Kingdom at a time. Out of Middle Earth This section is for all topics not Middle Earth related. In General you may talk about anything provided it is within the Proboards Terms of Service. All Polls must go on the polls board, any posted elsewhere will be deleted. The Newbie Halls is the place to get help getting started at A Tolkien Forum. Administration Here you may report SPAM and any abuse you have beed subject to or have witnessed. The Administrator and Valar will review the information you have provided and take any appropriate action. In all these matter Ilúvatars authority is final. You may pass on other improtant information through the Messages board in Administration. Important anouncements from Valinor will also be posted here. Valinor is the private 'Kingdom' forum for the Admins/Mods. Sorry but we do need somewhere to discuss important forum issues privately. Archive Many important and/or interesting threads from the various boards will be moved here for safe keeping during any forum clear outs. You may also get the answers to any queries you may have in the Lore Section. It also offers the opportunity to 'partake' in Middle Earth life through Role Play. The Kingdoms all operate under Role Playing conditions i.e if you are a Hobbit you behave as a Hobbit would, not only in the Shire but in all the kingdoms you may visit. For more information on role playing see the post below We understand that you may wish to chat to members you become friends with about more than just Middle Earth. This should be done on the General board in the Out of Middle Earth (OoME) section. There is also a board in OoME for discussing your love of the actors and actresses who bought Tolkiens character to life on the big screen.
